9th Grade Associate’s Degree Cohort

8th graders who are enrolled in Algebra I will receive a letter inviting them to apply for the Associate’s Degree Cohort. The criteria for consideration are that the student has an established High School GPA of 3.0 or higher, be enrolled in Algebra I, and sit for a placement test during their 8th-grade year. The following factors are given equal consideration when ranking students: placement test score, Algebra I SOL test score, and middle school GPA. The top 20 candidates are selected for participation in the cohort before freshman year. Students who are not selected for this opportunity could still be considered for Dual Enrollment classes during high school. In instances of a tie, middle school class rank may be utilized in order to break the tie. Note: The middle school GPA will be pulled for ranking purposes after the third grading period and prior to the end of the semester. For these reasons, final grades and SOL bonus points may not be factored into these rankings.
